Outward Bound's Impact program seeks more at-risk teens in Baldwin County
Our Story – Free Residential Rehab | Baldwin County
Has your troubled teen been kicked out of school, or gotten into trouble with authorities? Do you worry about their safety? As a result, you may be considering residential care options; such as boots camps, a therapeutic boarding school or a wilderness program for troubled teens. We offer a first-rate education, individual mentoring and counseling, equine therapy, and teamwork exercises to help teens develop character and learn to make responsible choices. Being without electricity and other conveniences allows teens to contemplate more meaningful issues of life. The necessity of cooperating to meet simple daily needs requires coping and teamwork strategies, pushing teens to consider their obligation to others. Once the teens in our care display responsible choices and take ownership of their growth, they transition to the residential program and move to a home on campus.
Meg Peterson, program director with Outward Bound, hopes to spread the word about Impact, which is designed for teenagers having problems with school. Outward Bound has existed in Fairhope since and helps struggling teens. Programs include camping and canoeing trips designed to build character, decrease delinquency and improve classroom behavior as well as school participation and attendance. Impact students are typically referred from schools, mental health counselors and community agencies, she said. But referrals have dropped largely because a change in software programs used by schools has made it more difficult to track and identify students who may benefit from Impact, she said.
